Collection name: 1960s Railways Steam; Subjects: Mechanical Sounds: From 1963 to 1968 I travelled around the UK with my 26-guinea Philips 3"/4" reel-to-reel and later a more modern analogue cassette recorder in an attempt to emulate my hero - steam recording ace Mr Peter Handford of Argo Transacord whose records I adored (and still do). Whilst the above were all I could afford as an engineering student, the recordings are fully documented, which it is felt adds considerably to their value. Being a railway employee myself, this assisted in getting to places where a non-railwayman might not: even on some occasions onto the footplate itself...
