London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) has over 100 km of shelving that hold records documenting a history of London, and its residents, since 1067. With collections available from the former Greater London Council (GLC) and predecessor London County Council (LCC), as well as those from a range of hospitals, churches, local business, community groups, charities, individuals and families (and much more), a vast array of metropolitan activity can be found reflecting the social, economic and administrative past of the capital.
Our audio holdings reflect this variety of content, including a number of oral histories from different ethnic, social and religious communities, public speeches from historical figures such as Winston Churchill, the proceedings of state visits held by past Lord Mayors and ceremonies for the recipients of City Freedoms including Princess Diana HRH and Margaret Thatcher MP, educational recordings created by the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) voiced by actors such as Judi Dench and Ian McKellen, and the meetings of the Common Council held at Guildhall.
